Self Portraits

My idea for the self portraits was to use my self as I am; a very quiet and shy person. I wanted to capture good artistic pictures. When I started to take the pictures began to understand better the project and it helped me get more focused. I think that my light picture was the most creative because it looks like I’m about to touch the sun. Taking these self portraits was difficult because we had to consider a lot of thing before taking the photographs. Creativity has a lot to play with into the success of my self-portraits because this is going to either make our picture look artistic or make them look like any regular picture that everyone takes.

All of my pictures were set up specifically like I wanted them. I think that all my pictures have good emphasis. To help my pictures be more compositionally strong I tried not to have people walking in the background or unnecessary objects so it wouldn’t draw attention form me. Some of the thing that weakened my pictures was lighting. I think that my best picture is the light one because it looks like I’m about to touch the sun. If I could change one of my pictures it would be my rules of third because it came out to gray.

I think that overall all of my pictures have good craftsmanship. I have two pictures that are a little gray. The lack of understanding didn’t help my picture with craftsmanship. I think that my photographs would have been better if I would have use ISO, shutter speed, and f-stop. The weakness of my portraits is that some of them look gray.

Overall I think that my portraits were acceptable. I think that my pictures were well taken. If I had to do this assignment again, I would pay more attention to my colors so when I turned them black and white they wouldn’t look so gray. My favorite shot was the light picture because I liked the effect that the sun gives and it looks artistic. My least favorite was the rule of thirds because it was the picture that looked grayer.

Shutter Speed

Shutter speed effects light and motion. Shutter speed is Representative on our camera as "s". The shuttespeed can be used to take pictures in a very dark room without using the flash. Shutterspeed can be used when its really bright outside, these will help the picture look less bright. In the picture at the right I used manual mode to help us take good picture indoors. In the other picture I used the shutterspeed mode to get movement in the picture.

ISO

The differece between the 3 shots are that one of them uses flash, the other ISO 50, and any ISO 5000. The picture with flash tool away the color form the loghts. The picture with ISO 50, did't allowed light to come in and it's really dark. For the one is the ISO 5000 took a lot of light so it made it look very bright.

Light Metering

For this we had to take two pictures; one focusing on the computer monitor and the other on the person. On the first picture the person looks very dark and the monitor very bright. On the second picture you can see the person better and the monitor is not so bright. This is important to know because the thing that you are focusing on may end you to dark. Or maybe you what to focus on the bright light.

Personal Metaphor

My metaphor is a tornado twisting and turning all over the place. I choose this metaphor because I wanted to express stressed and how I need to do many things before graduating high school. I wanted to demonstrate how everything is going by so quick and with no stop. I what to express a mood of happiness because I’m graduating but also the stress I’m feeling. With this tornado metaphor I think that I express everything that I’m feeling.

My composition I believe is good. I placed me in the center because I’m the main focus in the picture. My strong focal area is where I start to turn into the tornado. It’s strong because it’s the main focus of the picture. This picture is balanced because I have words on both sides of the picture. I think that my image is unified because it looks good.

I think that I did well in this project because I took my time and I worked on it a lot. It was difficult at first to figure out how to make me look like a tornado. I think that if I would have done a better job working on the dust it would have been better. If I could change something I would change the dust so it could look more real.

The Aesthetic Experince

For this project we we're given a cup of water. We laid on the ground to see it up close. Then the teacher dropped coloring into the water for us to look at. She dropped three different colors. The purpose for this was for us to get an aesthetic experience. The colors in the water made my think of fire.

Hybrid

An exercise borrowed from “I’ve Got a Human in My Throat” by Chris Johnson.
In preparation for our PERSONAL METAPHOR project we brushed up our skills combining objects together. Using layer masks and the clone stamp we blended this dog and bird together.

Chocolate Frog

For Valentines Day we turned frogs into chocolate. I thought this project was very interesting to do and it was also something different. I learned how to make anything look like real chocolate.

Shodow and Reflections

In these exercises we learned how to create shadows and reflections to help us make more realistic artwork. A new tool we learned was layer masks. The things we learned here can help me in the future by making better looking artwork and making better projects.

Program Covers

In this project we were supposed to come up with different ideas to make a graduation program and a student handbook. We were supposed to use photoshop and pictures we took of the school. My graduation project looks more professional but in my student handbook it looks more fun and creative.

Aged Photo

In this project we used one of our frame photographs to practice using Photoshop to create specific effects.

Balance with Frames

In this project we were given a frame. We had to use it in our composition. We also had to be in our photo, but not in the center. It was to be in black and white, and we needed to create a sense of visual balance. I created balance by having the tree on the left and by me looking in that direction also.

Random Object

We were each assigned a random object to photograph. We could choose to have it in color or black and white. We were to focus on "The Three C's." According to my peers, one thing I did well was the set up of the picture and the reflection on the lamp. One thing they suggested I work on was the brightness of the picture. I agree with what they said because my picture was creative but it looked to bright.

Egg Challenge

In this project each student was given an egg to photograph. We were to take a photo in both color and black-and-white. We were supposed to exemplify one or more of the following: Creativity, Craftsmanship or Composition.

I believe that my black and white was the most successful because you can see the texture of the rock and the egg better. The rock looks very rough and the egg looks very soft and it creates contrast.
